Mark Allardyce (born 1959) is a British technology founder and author focused on the human side of artificial intelligence and emerging technology. His work explores ideas around empathy architecture - how intelligence, whether human or artificial, learns values such as responsibility, kindness and restraint.
Mark spent more than four decades working in the technology industry, helping build companies and digital platforms across several sectors. His writing draws on those experiences, exploring how innovation changes the people who live with it.
Today he focuses on writing and creative projects that examine the values shaping the future of civilisation. His work ranges from children's nature stories to speculative writing about artificial intelligence and the responsibilities that come with powerful technology.
His work sits at the intersection of technology, storytelling and human development. He explores the relationship between humanity, nature and emerging technology and is the creator of several projects including The Seven Lanterns, Elphi, The Garden Series and Offscreen Explorers – each exploring different ways knowledge and values are passed between generations and intelligences.
His work is often described as:
“..exploring the idea of empathy architecture - how intelligence, whether human or artificial, learns values such as responsibility, kindness and restraint.”
Or as he sometimes puts it:
“I write stories exploring the future of humanity and the values that shape civilisation - sometimes through children’s nature stories, sometimes through speculative fiction about AI.”
