Mark Allardyce

Mark Allardyce explores how civilisation passes wisdom forward as artificial intelligence begins to learn from us.

For over four decades, Mark has worked at the intersection of technology, decision-making and human behaviour - building companies, navigating high-stakes environments and seeing first-hand how decisions play out under pressure.

Mark’s work is not theoretical.

It comes from lived experience - building and scaling technology businesses, operating in environments where decisions are exposed, scrutinised and owned.

But it also comes from somewhere very different. From time spent in extreme environments, including Arctic expeditions, where decisions are stripped back to their simplest form:

you either understand consequence - or you experience it

There is no narrative.
No delay.
No one else to point to.

That contrast - between modern complexity and fundamental consequence - sits at the heart of Mark’s work.

The principle is the same.
The stakes are simply higher now.

Through books, stories, audio and technology, Mark is developing:

The Lantern Project.

A body of work exploring how wisdom is passed forward through:

"nature, story, mentorship and lived experience".

This includes his children’s books, podcasts and audio experiences - designed to carry ideas in a way that can be felt, not just understood. His stories, including The Lantern Trilogy and ELPHI, explore how knowledge and values are passed between generations and intelligences.

Across formats, the intention is the same: to pass on simple truths about consequence, responsibility and human behaviour in ways that stay with people. Because the alternative is learning them the hard way.

It extends into a broader question: how those same principles should guide the intelligent systems we are now creating.

Mark's work is often described as 'empathy architecture':

"the belief that intelligence - human or artificial - should be shaped not just by logic and engineering, but by awareness, responsibility and lived experience."

Alongside this, Mark works with founders, boards and individuals through:

The Witness System.

A structured, analogue approach designed to surface:

  • hidden risk
  • behavioural patterns
  • decision blind spots

before they become consequences.

Delivered through direct sessions, guided work and short-form courses, the system acts as a form of modern mentorship - helping people see clearly at the moments it matters most.

It works across three moments:

  • Personal Witness - what’s really going on
  • Responsibility Pause - what are you about to do
  • Pre-Mortem Witness - how this fails before it happens

Used when decisions matter.
When pressure is high.
And when getting it wrong carries real consequence.

In a world moving faster than ever, the cost of not seeing clearly is rising.

Mark’s work focuses on one thing:

'helping people see clearly - before consequence teaches them the hard way'
